Jukebox.
playing music App

what is it?

Jukebox is a mobile app, which allows a group of people to collaboratively decide what music is played at a party. It allows each person to submit their favorite songs from a variety of sources (Spotify, Apple Music, Youtube) and influence playlist order by voting on songs. The playlist can be streamed to a wireless speaker such as Apple HomePod, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Sonos or any Bluetooth speaker.

ideation

I started by sketching icon ideas, user flows and UI elements. I researched social and music apps, interviewed several friends and observed human behavior in social settings.

visual design direction

Inspiration for icon design came from an old fashioned juke box machine.

Yellow, pink and purple evoke vibrant neon colors. They bring dynamism and energy, which are cohesive with party spirit. Charcoal grey was used for background, which creates a very strong contrast for neon colors.

ux design

I developed key use cases for the app: user authentication, party creation, music submission and voting. I started with pencil sketches, iterated on those and moved to Sketch app. I designed the wireframes and continued to refine them with details, color and typography until I had a design direction and UI I was happy with.

Lastly, I imported my designs to Invision App and turned them into an interactive prototype.
